Affordable Drywall Repair Tips

What Is the Cheapest Method to Repair Drywall

The traditional way to repair holes in drywall is to remove a section of the panel that reaches the stud and cut and install a new piece. That approach is time-consuming. And will often include cutting a larger patch than is necessary, not to mention some experience. The following is an affordable drywall repair hack that any DIY enthusiast can do.

Repairing large holes in drywall, which is anything more than six inches, is not the same as repairing a small hole in drywall. Small holes can be patched over using some drywall tape or a self-adhesive patch. However, large holes require a rigid material that will span the larger opening.

The easiest solution is also the best. This entails cutting a patch from another piece of drywall and securing it using wood backing strips and screws. Once the patch is in place, you will need to tape and mud (apply joint compound) over the seams, exactly like when installing new drywall. If you do the patch carefully, it will not be visible once it has been painted over.
